General Information:

Job Description:
The goal of the Intern Program is to provide an opportunity for genuine cross-cultural ministry for building the Kingdom of God and nurturing the intern’s ministerial gifts. The Mission Society’s mentoring missionary will provide specific job descriptions for each intern, allowing him or her to participate in the organization’s ongoing ministries overseas.

Age: The minimum age for an intern is 19. Interns do not need to be U.S. citizens, but they must be eligible to work in the U.S

Service Terms: Interns may serve from 1-18 months. Those interested in longer terms should inquire into the Mission Explorer (2 years) or Career (5 years) terms of service.

Application: Interested persons should complete an Interest Form and submit it to The Mission Society. Once the Interest Form has been reviewed, the intern applicant will receive a call from a Missions Coach who will explain the application process. After successful completion of the application process, the applicant will have an interview for approval.

Training: In addition to attending a four-day training event in Atlanta, interns will be assigned recommended reading. Language school may be incorporated into some internships, depending upon length of service, location, and role.

Cost: The Field Ministry department will work with the host missionary to provide a budget. Interns are responsible for raising 100% of these financial needs. The Mission Society’s accounting department will set up an account for the administration of financial support and coordinate receipt of the donations. Interns will receive a modest stipend, but have the option of waiving it in order to decrease the amount of support that must be raised.

Internship Opportunities:

*Note: Additional internship opportunities are available which are not listed on this website. Please ask the Mobilization department for more information.

CHINA
Term length: 1-18 months
Work in small group discipleship in East Asia, helping university-aged believers to grow in their faith and share it with others. This internship has particular emphasis on discipleship and training to send the young believers into unreached areas of China as well as the 10/40 window. Language study is also available during this time. No language skills are required.
Term length: 6-18 months
This particular internship has two components. First, serve as a part-time home school instructor for children in the subjects of math and science. No education degree is required. Second, attend language school in China at one of the universities, allowing for great bonding opportunities with Chinese culture and university students. Someone interested in serving long-term would be ideal, especially because of the emphasis on language acquisition.

GHANA
Term length: 1-18 months

Akwaaba! Welcome! You are welcome to Ghana. Work with children or adults in literacy and educational ministries by partnering with the Reading Town Library in the village of Ankaase, just north of Kumasi. The Reading Town Library seeks to enable the people of Ankaase—especially young people—to discover their gifts and God given potential through enhancing their education. Additional opportunities include children’s Bible studies, youth ministry, community development, basic computer skills training, and community recreational outreach.

LITHUANIA
Term length: 1 – 3 months
Work with members of The City Church in Klaipeda, Lithuania (www.m-b.lt), a thriving church in Eastern Europe on the Baltic Sea. Ministries will include hosting summer activities such as kids camp, youth camp, family camp, community programs, worship, and other programs. No language skills are required.
Term length: 6 – 18 months
Serve both The City Church (www.m-b.lt) and LCC International University (www.lcc.lt) by helping missionary teachers and staff with student activities, church programs for children, youth, and adults. English is the official language and the university and is spoken widely by the members of the church, so there are no language requirements.

NAMIBIA
Term length: 6-18 months
Work with children from several different tribal and language groups at The Children of Zion Village, a Christian home for orphans in the southern African nation of Namibia. It is located along the Zambezi River in the northeast corner of Namibia. "The Village" opened in January 2003 and is now home to 57 children. Most of the children have been placed in the orphanage because they have lost their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to AIDS. The missionaries, volunteers, and Namibian staff work together to raise the children in The Village. Share in practical ways through helping to teach, doing Bible lessons, working on the grounds, helping kids with homework, and discipling the older kids and teenagers.

PARAGUAY
Term length: 1-18 months
Join veteran missionaries on one of The Mission Society’s first fields. Teach English, work with children at a primary school, or serve in a variety of other ministries in Paraguay. Conversational Spanish is mandatory.

PERU
Term length: 1-18 months
Work with Kuyay Talpuy, an educational center in Huancayo, Peru. Travel to fairly remote villages in Central Peru is also a part of the assignment. The focus of this internship involves children’s education, tutoring programs, family relationships, Bible study, and working with a new church plant. Conversational Spanish and willingness to work in a fairly remote area are mandatory.
Term length: 2-18 months
Work in literacy and English education in Central Peru. There is an increasing need for native English speakers in Peru to teach English to Peruvians. No experience or certification necessary, as our host missionaries will work with you and instruct you on teaching in this area. No Spanish skills required for these English education opportunities.

THAILAND
Term length: 1-18 months
Partner with Thai nationals and Mission Society missionaries Chris and Dora Barbee in Northeast Thailand. Teach English and possibly basic computer skills or music lessons to poor rural children and youth, while sharing the love of Jesus and building relationships with locals. This ministry seeks to be proactive in helping steer the youth of the Northeast away from the sex trade by instilling a sense of personal value in each person. Other opportunities, particularly related to sex trafficking advocacy and justice ministries, may be available as well. Thai language training (up to two months) for interns staying more than six months is highly recommended.

UNITED STATES
Clarkston, Georgia
Term length: 2-18 months
The New York Times calls Clarkston “one of the most diverse communities in America.” Refugees and immigrants from countries including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Burundi, Burma, Eritrea, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Vietnam call this small metro-Atlanta city, “home.” As an intern, the possibilities of service are endless. Teach English. Disciple new believers. Play with kids. Teach life skills. As a part of the internship, you will work alongside individuals and organizations that have invested their lives into the Clarkston community.

The above list of opportunities is not exhaustive, as internship opportunities are regularly being added. If you’re interested in serving in a secure location, or if you don’t see an opportunity that strikes you, but still desire to serve with us, please contact Kate Hilderbrandt (678.542.9036) or Richard Coleman (678.542.9040). We’re always happy to entertain inquiries and work with you to help you discover and discern your calling in mission.
