Kazakhstan
This former Soviet republic, second in size only to her northern neighbor, Russia, is an ever-unfolding mystery. Kazakhstan has marched through an ancient and troubled history - from the invasion of Ghengis Khans hordes, to colonization by the Russian empire, to its current struggle as a free-market economy. Though there is a Muslim majority and some restrictive laws, Kazakhstan is remarkably open to the gospel. Missionaries in Kazakhstan are demonstrating the gospel through church-planting, orphanage and at-risk children outreach, English-language training, and education. For teams in the city of Karaganda, where our mission team center is located, there are opportunities to participate in education work, children’s ministry, and orphanage visits. An important ongoing need is for summer teams to conduct English-language camps with children and youth. All visitors would participate in activities with the missionary staff, including prayer, some teaching and cultural events, and have opportunities for building relationships with local Russian and Kazakh believers. |
