Strategic Planning Process The Mission Society believes in discerning the Lord’s direction for the organization each year through prayer and community. The process for deploying its resources begins in the third quarter of each year with its leaders from around the world assembling a list of key projects/initiatives which will have the most impact on making disciples and advancing access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These opportunities are prayed over until December by the president and the executive staff (the President’s Team), so as to discern which projects the Lord is leading them to pursue in the next year. This process helps the organization move into the new year with precise strategic plans that are consistent with its Core Values, Vision, Mission, and Articles of Faith.
The President’s Team then prioritizes the strategic initiatives for the coming year, and establishes financial and personnel budgets that create benchmarks to help measure and achieve goals. The cost of each initiative includes direct expenses of staff salary, travel expenses, and materials expenses, plus the prorated overhead and administrative costs.
In February, the approval to adopt the initiatives is obtained from the Board of Directors. Following the Board’s approval, the initiatives are offered to donor-partners as part of the strategy to mobilize their donor base into missions around the world.
In their efforts to demonstrate transparency and accountability for the stewardship of the resources from our donors, the Advancement Department of The Mission Society communicates frequently with those who have underwritten the initiatives. This correspondence is done to personalize the progress being achieved in the implementation of the initiatives. Prayer updates, emails, phone calls, personal visits, and a mid-year report are given to donors who supported that year’s initiatives to communicate specifically how God is using these investments to advance His Kingdom.
