Ministry description:
Field: Nicaragua
Home State: Georgia
Ronnie and Angi Hopkins are the first missionaries to serve in the nation of Nicaragua for the Mission Society. Before joining the Mission Society team, they served in the Red Bird Missionary Conference, Ronnie as the camp manager and Angi as nurse practitioner. They participated in short term mission teams to Nicaragua for many years before moving there full-time in 2006.
For the first three years of their career, Ronnie and Angi assisted a group of Nicaraguan pastors to establish a training center. The center is used for spiritual retreats, conferences and training as well as to receive short term mission teams. In 2009 the administration of the center was turned over to the pastors.
Through their connection with the pastors, the Hopkins have been able to develop relationships with a number of communities, many of them in remote areas. Ronnie and Angi are working alongside leaders and members of these communities. Specific needs that have been expressed by the communities include adequate housing, education for their children and access to health care. Among others, projects have included construction and renovation of schools and homes, scholarships for university students and training of lay health workers.
Ronnie and Angi are raising their foster child Adanelly (Peanut) who has been with them since she was two months old.
