This missionary works in limited access countries equipping followers of Jesus. She trains individuals, small groups or larger groups depending on security and logistical constraints. The focus is on scripture itself using oral inductive Bible study methods as 75% of the world is oral in tradition.

The conviction is that biblically trained women are critical participants in the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 so the foremost target is women in leadership roles as well as women who may not be considered of value in their communities. However, in most locations served the men are also eager to be equipped in this approach to ministry. Where culture allows the men are equipped either separately or along with the women.

This missionary usually travels alone or with an indigenous believer but continues to pray for those who would be willing to accompany her in an internship position so that this paradigm of ministry to orally 'traditioned' people groups can be passed on to others who share the vision.

She continues to seek plowed up soil in hard ground around the world and so will stay in any country from a few day up to three months (depending on governmental authorization and security issues) and is available for return visits where it is requested for additional encouragement and assistance.

The goal is to see believers independent from foreign resources.

The call is to stand behind believers in difficult circumstances, holding up their arms in the battle so that He may be the Victor (Exodus 17). It is this missionary's desire to provide nationals with oral Biblical training methods and resources to win their communities to Christ and disciple them in their faith.

A Brief Description of Oral Inductive Bible Study or Storying...
This unique and transferable method of passing along scripture happens within a small community of faith. (Especially where there are security issues.)

  • A portion of scripture is the focus where open-ended questions form the basis of observation, interpretation and application.
  • The 'story-teller' (who has the scripture memorized) never teaches but only asks the questions allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely without theology or world view of the 'teller' interfering or overshadowing the group's own culture. Barriers become porous so that His Word is free to teach, build, convict, guide, give courage and comfort.
  • This process includes the scripture being 'worked' six times and without the participants realizing it they have learned the scripture by heart.
  • People leave with the Word hidden in their hearts where no one can take it away...but even more surprising is that they can easily turn and retell the 'story' to another and another and another.
  • This process can apply to all portions of scripture not just action stories.
  • This is particularly effective in regions where any written or electronic material can be incriminating...no materials required!
  • This has the most marvelous potential for evangelism with the various people movements including the 'insider movement' as it gives those living in such circumstances the ability to just tell 'stories' from the holy books.
  • Perhaps the most valuable potential however, is the maturing of young believers in their faith through the use of the scripture alone. Since discipleship is a crisis where so many are coming to faith but have so few resources available to grow and mature.
  • This is also very effective in empowering community leaders and women who may not have the required literacy skills to fill the natural leadership roles in a new community of faith.
