Brazil
South America
Year opened: 2006
The world’s fifth largest country is home to more than 200 million inhabitants, winning it the position of the largest and most populous country in South America. Brazil is also the leading economic power in South America, despite difficult circumstances that have somewhat crippled the nation since the 1990s. Seventy-three percent of Brazilians consider themselves Roman Catholic and 15.4% are Protestant.
Some Mission Society missionaries minister in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay and Foz do Iguau, Brazil, which are twin cities. They teach at the Methodist Bible Institute in Asuncion, Paraguay and work locally in discipleship, as well as being involved in church-planting and leadership training in the area. Other members of The Mission Society team in Brazil minister in children’s ministry, with a particular focus on street children and orphans. The Mission Society is also involved in the formation of a Brazilian mission-sending organization.
Prayer Requests
- For the Brazilian missionary-sending organization that The Mission Society is helping to form
- For the Holy Spirit to truly capture the hearts of the people and break the stronghold of spiritism that rules so many
- For the leadership development training that Mission Society missionaries are teaching and that more Brazilian Christians would be equipped to lead in the Church
