Cambodia
Far East/Asia
Year opened: 2010
The Mission Society opened a field in Cambodia in 2010. Of Cambodia’s nearly 15 million inhabitants, 96.4% of them are Buddhist. Two percent are Muslim and two percent are “other” or “unspecified.”
Cambodia has a long history of strife and political instability. In 1975, more than one million Cambodians were killed when communist forces occupied the country. The nation is now governed by a multi-party democracy under a constitutional monarchy.
Mission Society missionaries to Cambodia are involved in education. One is establishing an English training center for high school and undergraduate students, while discipling them to reach out to their communities. Another is training and discipling teachers, as well as developing a Christian values curriculum for a Cambodian preschool program.
