Malaysia was formed by the union of Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak in 1963. Because of the diversity of inhabitants brought together, Malaysia continues to have a diverse ethnic population. Of the 25 million inhabitants, 50% are Malay, nearly 24% are Chinese, 11% indigenous, 7% Indian, and almost 8% are a mix of other nationalities. Sixty percent of the population is Muslim, while 19% are Buddhist, nine percent Christian, and six percent are Hindu.
The current Prime Minister of Malaysia has helped the nation make significant economic strides since coming into office in 2003. Exporting oil, gas, and electronics contributes a great deal to the nation’s economy, as well as new investments in technology industries.
Mission Society missionaries in Malaysia work in community development ministries to meet the needs of local people and share the love of Christ.
