Good Shepherd Children's HomeYear Began: 2007Good Shepherd Children's Home was founded by Pastor Simon Thou Mwaura and his wife, Lucy. It is part of the comprehensive ministry of God's Grace for All Nations (GGFAN). The home was established through a generous donation from members of Weddington United Methodist Church which is located near Charlotte, North Carolina. The home is the residence for 61 children in a rural setting near Nyahururu, Kenya. Most of the children residing at the home have been orphaned by loss of parents due to HIV/AIDS and tribal clashes.
The home is governed by an independent board of directors who is accountable to the GGFAN board.
The board of directors has prioritized helping the Home generate its own food for the children. Recent projects towards this objective include building greenhouses for vegetables, the construction of two tilapia ponds, a small herd of dairy cows and goats, and the installation of baking ovens. There is a need for a larger dining/meeting hall, so donations have been used to purchase a machine for the children to manufacture their own building blocks. Funding is now needed to purchase the concrete floor and roof trusses for this new building.
