MISSION: PREVENT SUMMER LEARNING LOSS
Power Academy Summer Day Camps prevent summer learning loss through a full day of engagement with our students. Each year our educators develop camp themes that include instruction, hands on learning opportunities and exciting field trips. Weekly field trips include zoos, botanic gardens, urban farms, science museums, architecture walks, local parks and much more. Using multidisciplinary learning techniques, we help children reflect on and internalize their summer’s experience by journaling about their trips and distributing stickers to mark accomplishments in each subject area they explored.
Our summer programs culminate in two large community events, Olympic Day and Cranium Crunch. Olympic Day events are traditionally hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and feature field events, team-building exercises, and health, fitness, and nutrition activities.
Cranium Crunch is an all-site science fair, where teams of students show the success of their group projects and demonstrate the skills and information they have learned in a fun competition.
