SUMMER POWER ACADEMY
PREVENTING SUMMER LEARNING LOSS
Summer Power Academy enrolls 825 students (Grades K-8) in a seven-week, all-day enrichment program. Unified by an annual theme, students engage in experiential learning activities, study dance and music from a variety of cultures, and explore the City through immersive field trips that improve their STEAM skills and prevent summer reading loss. By filling this critical void in the communities in which we work, Mission sets our students up for success—the kinds of academic and social achievements that build the self-confidence to support long-term youth development and empowerment.
Summer Power Academy culminates in two large community events:
Olympic Day, hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, features field events, team-building exercises, and health, fitness, and nutrition activities.
Cranium Crunch is an all-site science fair, where teams of students show the success of their group projects and demonstrate the skills and information they have learned in a fun competition.
