The Mission Society has wrapped up an incredible 2024, a year filled with growth, exploration, and unforgettable memories for our students, staff, and families. As we reflect on all we’ve achieved together, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunities to continue to inspire and empower young minds across our city. From the classroom to our very own city streets, this year was packed with major milestones and moments of joy that highlight the creativity, determination, and heart of our community.

We hope you will join us in taking a look back and celebrating everything we accomplished together in the last year that set the stage for the future success of our community and beyond.

Mission Society’s 2024 Memories

This year, we strengthened the bonds between our students, families, and staff through a series of engaging family events. We hosted game nights, painting sessions, and potlucks. We also invited families to attend student performances and holiday showcases, providing a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the incredible hard work their children have accomplished in our programs.

Throughout the year, we celebrated a variety of milestones across our programs. Our fifth graders embarked on their middle school journeys, our middle schoolers stepped confidently into their freshman year, and our high school seniors prepared for the next chapter after graduation. We held award ceremonies to recognize students and staff for their achievements, and many of our young people took on their first paid internships

Advocacy and leadership were recurring themes in 2024. Our Level Up students joined others across the city to rally at City Hall in support of our Learning to Work program, which offers our young people opportunities like career skills and exploration. We also had the honor of hosting New York State Senator Roxanne Persaud, who inspired students with her insights on voting and civic engagement. Our Mission Ambassadors Youth Summit brought together student leaders from all five of our K-8 programs, collaborating on community mapping and sharing updates on impactful school projects. They also had a chance to visit the United Nations, which introduced our students to pathways in global diplomacy.

Our programs sparked curiosity and ignited passions across a range of activities. Our high school students practiced their culinary skills alongside a chef and explored the beauty industry through nail design courses. Our younger students embraced their musical side with drumming programs, gained confidence through swimming lessons at Lehman College, and strengthened both body and mind in martial arts classes

This year, we proudly launched a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) store, allowing students to earn rewards while building essential life skills. We also created custom math workbooks designed by our educators to make learning engaging and accessible in our afterschool program. Our annual book fair encouraged young readers to expand their home libraries, and our overnight college trips to Medgar Evers and Brooklyn College empowered our high school students to envision their academic futures.

We hope you enjoyed reflecting on the incredible moments from our 2024 journey! Your support has helped make these achievements possible, empowering our scholars and community to reach new heights. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to build on this momentum and continue creating opportunities for growth, learning, and discovery together. Thank you for being an essential part of our story!
