FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY (July 17, 2024) – The Mission Society of New York City is announcing that Chairman of the Board, Matthew Mamak, is stepping down from his role after twelve years of compassionate service. We are excited to share that he will remain with the Board in an emeritus role. With his help, the organization has expanded on its longstanding efforts to serve New York’s most vulnerable youth and families through enriching educational opportunities. The staff and Board are incredibly grateful for his time investment and dedication to these invaluable programs for the city.
“Matthew has played a critical role in the development and success of our organization, and while his inspiring leadership will be missed, we are thrilled that he will be staying on in an emeritus role to assist with the transition and offer his advice on future endeavors,” said the Mission Society President and CEO, Elsie McCabe Thompson.
About his decision Matthew stated, “Serving as Chairman has been an incredibly meaningful experience. I’ve had the honor to witness the impressive achievements of our students, and have enjoyed working alongside a staff that ensures all young people have a foundation for success. I am excited to see how the Mission Society continues to flourish.”
Matthew spent over a decade working to spotlight the remarkable work happening in schools, motivated by the impact educators had during his time in the classroom. Knowing how crucial the Mission Society’s comprehensive support is to its community, he has collaborated with the Board to build a lasting infrastructure for the organization and strategies that will ensure the Mission Society can continue to respond to the needs of students across the city.
The Mission Society team is also pleased to announce that James Peterson will be taking up the mantle as the new Chairman of the Board. The organization is thrilled that James has decided to bring his experience and perspective to the role.
Of the transition, Matthew shared, “I know that I am leaving this esteemed position on the Board in excellent hands with James Peterson, who has deep institutional knowledge and a willingness to continue to bring a collaborative and positive spirit to this important organization.”
